Standing with Afghanistan

War Child has worked in Afghanistan for more than 20 years, maintaining relationships with local partners and community leaders, to deliver long-term, resilience-focused services. Despite increased instability and funding cuts, we remain committed to supporting children, their mothers and caretakers through protection, education, skills training, humanitarian assistance and urgent healthcare.

War Child Adapts

Restrictions in Afghanistan have impacted decades of progress for women, making access to education, healthcare, and jobs incredibly difficult.

War Child has adapted and expanded our programs in Afghanistan to meet critical needs, like health and maternal care for women & children, classes for children, and skills training and economic support to help families survive.

War Child Canada works across multiple provinces in Afghanistan, and in 2025, we directly reached over 180,000 children, youth, and caregivers, and over a million people, whether family members or broader communities, indirectly. Our locally-led approach delivers high quality programs alongside Afghan partners and communities.

Programs focus on empowerment, recovery, opportunities for youth, and community resilience. Our integrated approach combines education, health, child protection, mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS), livelihoods, youth engagement, and emergency response, helping families create lasting opportunities despite ongoing challenges.

We provide crucial programs, including:

Participants sit behind massive blue bags which are winterization kits: filled with survival necessities like warm clothing, boots, cooking stove and supplies, etc.

My favorite activities are playing football and volleyball but I can’t pursue them because my father passed away, and as the oldest child, I had to take on the responsibilities of my family.
“Before attending MYC, I had no hopes, but now I’ve learned many things like life skills, English, and different recreational activities. This has boosted my confidence, and I am hopeful now."
