It’s Universal Children’s Day! To celebrate, we’ve partnered globally with the IKEA Foundation to bring you 35 days of play.
The UN Convention on the Rights of the Children states that every child has the right to play. Sadly, millions of children around the world are denied this right.
“Many children around the world lack safe spaces to play. War and disasters are forcing more children than ever before to flee their homes and make difficult and dangerous journeys. Many more miss out on the chance to play because of poverty and prejudice. Children suffer the most in a crisis situation, and we are committed to upholding and raising awareness of their rights.” Per Heggenes, CEO of IKEA Foundation.
Joined by charities including Save the Children, Handicap International Federation, Room to Read, Special Olympics and UNICEF, we’re fighting for every child’s right
to play and we invite you to join in.
The perfect stocking stuffer for every child on your list.
If you’ve got a child on your holiday gift list this year, give the gift that gives back.
Between November 20th and December 24th, for each children’s book or toy sold in an IKEA store, the IKEA Foundation will donate $1 in support of every child’s right to play and develop, focusing on those living in some of the world’s most volatile regions.
Supporting War Child programs in Jordan and Lebanon
Proceeds from the Play For Change campaign will support War Child’s ongoing efforts to create safe learning spaces for children in both Jordan and Lebanon (run by our partners at War Child Holland) who have fled the ongoing conflict in Syria.
Many of these children have been displaced and are on the run from conflict, violence and abuse. Their childhood has been thrown off tracks and now, more than ever, they need to experience the healing power of play:
“Play is important to children everywhere but for children overcoming the brutality of war it is vital. Creating a safe space to play is the first step in allowing them to reclaim their childhood and begin to rebuild their future after the years of violence and trauma. It is wonderful that the IKEA Foundation has chosen to support these children.” – Dr. Samantha Nutt, Founder, War Child Canada and War Child USA
